|Our year starts with the celebration of Saraswati puja and impending spring. The festival is celebrated in India every year on the fifth day of the shukla paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the Magha (usually in the month of January/February), on the day called ‘Basant Panchami’. Vasant Panchami is the advent of spring and its colors, fledging life and hope. Ma Saraswati is the Goddess of Learning, particularly of poetry and music, learning and science in Hindu Mythology and we begin our year by seeking her blessings and paying homage to the power of learning and knowledge.
At BANC, a hallmark of this celebration are the performances by the children of our community, vendor stalls by local entrepreneurs to entice shoppers. Students, multiple music and dance performances both entertain and educate the community about our culture and heritage. We also have hathe-khodi for the little ones as they take their first steps into reading and writing.

Puja RSVP and Payment
Considering the growing number of member and non-member attendees at our events in recent years, we have decided to streamline the BANC registration and payment methods for 2018. The unknowns related to onsite registration has clearly shown to create recurring problems in planning and forecasting. The disparity between the RSVP and the actual attendance via on-site registration has become an increasingly difficult element for the planning team to maneuver in real time.
To this effect and to serve our community better, we are moving all transactions related to BANC membership and/or event registration to “ON-LINE” mode via PayPal, with the exception of 2018 Saraswati Pujo. Moving forward NO ON-SITE registration and/or payments shall be accepted. This will facilitate advanced planning of BANC operations, and management of events thereby reducing related logistical constraints.
Only for 2018 Saraswati Pujo, the payments (checks only, NO cash) will be accepted onsite but online registration is mandatory.
